Contest rules and conditions for “Are you smarter than an economist?”
No purchase or contribution is necessary to enter or win. Contest void where prohibited or regulated by law.
1. Eligibility:
a. Entrants must agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
b. No one under 18 years of age at time of entry may enter.
c. Limit is one entry per person, per month.
d. Relatives, agents, and affiliates of Sponsor may enter a prediction but are not eligible to win a prize and will not be counted in determining the winner.
2. Dates: We will begin accepting entries at the time the contest is posted on www.theturnaroundblogger.comTM. Entries will no longer be eligible for a prize after the results specified in either 3ci or 3cii below has been released. We will post a notice on the website as soon as practical after either has occurred and after both have occurred. Names of winners, when available, will be posted on the site.
3. Method of entry:
a. Return to http://www.theturnaroundblogger.comTM and submit the dates you predict that both ci and cii below will occur; e.g., “i will occur in first quarter 2010, and ii will occur in September of 2012.” (Entrants may add other comments in addition to their predictions.)
b. To submit a prediction, go to the comment section at the end of the post “Are you smarter than an economist?”
c. To be valid, entries must be complete and include the dates when both of the following will occur:
i. Quarter that seasonally adjusted annual rate of real U.S. Gross Domestic Product increases by at least 2% from prior quarter as reported at this URL, document name: Percent change from preceding period, using “chained 2000 dollars”
ii. Month that seasonally adjusted U.S. unemployment rate is the same or less than same month in prior year as reported at this URL. See table below the graph.
d. Winner must correctly predict both 3ci and 3cii above.
e. All entries must include a valid first and last name and email address. Entrants’ names will be appear on the blog, but email addresses will not be published.
4. Prize:
a. Eligibility will be determined by the date of the entry. Entries will be considered in the order received.
b. Amount of prize
i. All amounts below are in U.S. dollars.
ii. The first person to predict correctly when both measures will occur will receive $1,000.
iii. The next five people to predict correctly will each be eligible to receive $150.
iv. In no event will the total prizes awarded exceed $1,750.
v. If no entrant predicts both correctly, no prize will be awarded.
c. Winner(s) is responsible for all applicable taxes, fees and other costs that may be associated with the receipt of any prize. Prizes may not be exchanged or transferred.
5. Notification and Winners:
a. To receive a prize, winners must provide verification of identity and age; failure to provide such verification may result in determination of ineligibility to participate and/or voiding of entry, at sole discretion of Sponsor.
b. Winners will be selected and notified by email within 21 days of the close of the contest. Winners will have 7 days from notification to respond with a valid postal address, verification of identity, and consent to use name as provided in these terms and conditions. If we are unable to contact a winner at the email address on entrant’s entry, or if winners do not respond within 7 days with requested verification, etc., the entry and prize will be void, and the next qualified entrant (if any) will be awarded the applicable prize money.
6. Names of winners will be posted on www.theturnaroundblogger.comTM not later than 30 days after the winner is determined.
7. Chance of Winning. Chance of winning depends on number of entries received.
8. Agreement to Terms and Conditions, Use of Name. By entering, you agree to abide by the terms and conditions of this Contest. If your entry is selected as a winner, to the extent permitted by law, you agree to allow and hereby grant to Sponsor the irrevocable right to use, publish, post, distribute, display and reproduce your name and image for advertising, reporting and promotional purposes in all media, including without limitation, on Sponsor’s blog site www.theturnaroundblogger.comTM, without any further compensation or consideration. You agree to release Sponsor and her agents from all liability and waive all rights and claims relating to the use of said name and image.
9. Release, Limitations, Disclaimers. By participating, contestants release and agree to hold Sponsor harmless from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the contest or acceptance, possession, or any use of any prize. No warranties, express or implied, are created by entry. Sponsor is not responsible for computer, software, network, electronic mail or other transmission problems or late, lost, or misdirected entries or other submission errors. Sponsor has the right to terminate, cancel or modify the contest at any time for any reason at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
10. In the event of a dispute, the laws of the State of Oregon apply.
